My History

From the majestic mountains of Colorado to the beautiful vast ocean, my husband, two dogs and I moved to Surf City, North Carolina in 2021. I am inspired by the authenticity of others in my life and have enjoyed my personal experiences of living in California, Florida, Oregon and Colorado. I value my roles of being a life partner, mother, daughter, sister, friend and therapist. My passions include the ocean, mountains, hiking, biking, dancing, music and traveling. My vision is to continue to learn, grow, heal and live my dreams in joy and gratitude, while sharing my compassion and inspired creativity to connect with and support others on their journeys.

My Approach

Sometimes life can feel so challenging and overwhelming that anxiety, fear, sadness, grief, or anger stops us in our tracks. We may feel constant distress in our thoughts, feelings and body. Or maybe we feel the complete opposite and become frozen and numb. There may be negative voices in your head affecting the way you view yourself, others, or the world around you. Perhaps you are exhausted from the discrepancy between how you feel and how you want to feel. You are at a point of wanting something different.

Together we can explore ways of being in the world in the direction of healing, health, and vitality. Collaboratively, we can identify your personal needs and goals. We will work on ways to lower distress whether it is from trauma, grief and loss, or mental health symptoms.   The goal is to move you in the direction of a balanced life. With a self-discovery mindset, therapy can assist with the journey of pausing, transforming patterns, and ultimately feeling more relaxed, and whole.

My belief is that individuals have the innate capacity to move in the direction of health and healing. Challenges in life can offer an opportunity for personal growth and change. In my experience, therapy can offer a compassionate and safe environment to identify, explore and transform core beliefs, patterns of behavior, and the effects of trauma or impactful experiences that are often barriers in one’s life.

My approach to counseling focuses on the relationship and exploring meaning and purpose in one’s life. I provide Individual therapy with a focus on trauma informed care, and I employ a strength based integrative approach based on the Recovery Model which values living life to one’s full potential. My approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills training, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Areas of training include Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma, addiction, anger management, anxiety, mood disorders, and grief and loss. My background includes inpatient mental health, substance use residential and outpatient clinical mental health.

Education

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California.  My graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling was obtained in 2015 from Oregon State University in Bend, Oregon. As a former massage therapist, I have much interest in the mind body connection and the benefits of somatic and experiential exercises that assist with mental health.
